Astrotourism, the new way to travel by the stars

What exactly is astrotourism?
It encompasses any travel related to astronomy experiences, whether it’s a solar eclipse, meteor shower, rocket launch, or even something more off-worldly like taking a zero-gravity flight or eventually going to space. There are life experiences that forever keep a corner in our memory. While you decide on one, the other or both, we've made a selection of the best experiences the international tourism has to offer when it comes to exploring the skies.

A night of stargazing (Cabo San Lucas, Mexico)

The certified astronomy guide, Maria Elena, will pick you up wherever you decide and then show you the main constellations of the season, asterisms, planets and travel beyond the solar system with a powerful telescope. The stars you will be able to see from Cabo San Lucas tell Mayan, Aztec and Greek stories. Plus, you'll learn to read the sky wherever you are.

Night Skies Photo Adventure (Muriwai, New Zealand)

Thanks to Larryn's experience you will capture dazzling images of the New Zealand night sky. During the session you will work on all aspects of night shooting, from camera setup and composition, with the Milky Way galaxy as the protagonist.

Learn astronomy in the desert (Joshua Tree, USA)

Whether you're a seasoned pro or a new enthusiast, nighttime can be the most fun and challenging time to take photos. National Geographic photographer Ben Horton will take you to several of his favorite spots and help you get the best images of nighttime landscapes.

Hotel Jackson, Jackson Hole, Wyoming USA

The Wyoming wilderness is dazzling by day, of course, but by night, well, it’s even better. The Hotel Jackson, a four-star boutique property, for a bespoke, socially distanced stargazing experience. Wyoming Stargazing takes guests to Grand Teton National Park where they can bundle up in a blanket and cozy up in a camping chair while an astronomer guides them through the cosmic display. Back at the hotel, you’ll have views of the Snow King and the Jackson Valley Mountains. Plan a day trip to nearby Yellowstone National Park to hit the slopes or go for a hike.
Astrotourism guide recommend paying attention to the moon phase and dressing in layers. The moon is astonishingly bright and can prevent you from seeing the stars in that area of the sky. If you want to go stargazing without the moon, aim for nights near the new moon -or plan to enjoy some moongazing during the rest of the month.
